The Opportunity

Scarborough is a town where tradition meets transformation, offering a unique coastal setting for educators who want to make a tangible difference. We are seeking a dedicated Mathematics Teacher to join a department that views the subject as the toolkit for future engineers, marine biologists, and entrepreneurs. In this role, you will help students in Scarborough master the logic and problem-solving skills necessary to navigate an increasingly data-driven world.

The Department

  • You will join a supportive team that emphasizes "Mathematical Fluency," ensuring students move beyond rote learning to a deep, conceptual understanding of number and space.

  • The department is well-resourced with interactive technology, high-spec graphing software, and a wealth of physical resources designed to make abstract concepts concrete.

  • We follow a curriculum that highlights the real-world applications of Mathematics, from the statistics of local ecology to the geometry used in the town’s historic and modern architecture.

  • We are active participants in regional Mathematics challenges and maintain links with North Yorkshire’s STEM networks to provide students with enrichment opportunities outside the classroom.

Core Responsibilities

  1. Curriculum Delivery: Teaching Mathematics across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (GCSE), with the opportunity to teach A-Level Mathematics (including Pure, Mechanics, and Statistics) for the right candidate.

  2. Problem-Solving Pedagogy: Designing lessons that challenge students to apply algebraic, geometric, and statistical principles to complex, multi-step problems.

  3. Data Literacy: Teaching students how to interpret and analyse data sets, helping them understand the role of probability and statistics in modern society.

  4. Calculus & Trigonometry: Leading students through the higher-level functions required for further education in engineering and the physical sciences.

  5. Support & Intervention: Utilizing diagnostic assessments to identify gaps in knowledge and delivering targeted support to ensure all students meet or exceed their potential.

The Successful Candidate We are looking for a mathematician who can inspire curiosity and resilience in the classroom. Requirements include:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in Mathematics or a related quantitative field (e.g., Physics or Engineering).

  • Adaptability: The ability to simplify complex abstract concepts for younger learners while providing rigorous "stretch and challenge" for A-Level students.

  • Classroom Management: A positive and proactive approach to engagement, creating a classroom environment where students feel confident to take risks and learn from mistakes.

  • Collaborative Spirit: A willingness to share resources and best practices within a team that values professional growth and collective success.

Why Join Us?

  • A school that treats Mathematics as a vital core subject with significant timetable weighting and investment.

  • Access to specialized professional development through regional Maths Hubs, focusing on the latest research in mastery-based learning.

  • The opportunity to work in a famous seaside town that offers an exceptional quality of life, affordable housing, and immediate access to the North York Moors National Park.

  • A supportive, professional staff culture that prioritizes sustainable workloads and teacher well-being.
