A secondary school in Scarborough is seeking an experienced and motivated Head of Science to lead its Science department from September. As Head of Science, you will oversee the delivery of Science across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, ensuring high-quality teaching and consistent curriculum delivery throughout the department.
You will manage departmental planning, support teaching staff, and ensure students are effectively prepared for GCSE and A-Level examinations. The role involves both teaching responsibilities and leadership duties, with a focus on maintaining high expectations and structured learning environments.
This position requires strong subject knowledge alongside the ability to lead, motivate, and support colleagues.
Leading the Science department across KS3–KS5
Managing curriculum planning and departmental schemes of work
Supporting and developing teaching staff within the department
Monitoring student progress and departmental performance
Preparing students for GCSE and A-Level examinations
Ensuring consistency in teaching and assessment standards
Managing departmental resources and equipment
Supporting whole-school initiatives and academic improvement

Essential Criteria:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Experience teaching Science across KS3–KS5
Strong subject knowledge across Science disciplines
Experience supporting curriculum planning
Ability to lead and motivate a team
Strong organisational and leadership skills
Desirable:
Previous leadership or departmental responsibility
Experience improving student outcomes within Science
Experience managing departmental performance data
