General Operative / General Foreperson £35,000pa + Production Bonus

About the Role

We are looking for a dedicated and safety‑focused General Operative / General Foreperson to support daily site operations with professionalism and attention to detail. This role is central to maintaining safe working practices, ensuring efficient production processes, and upholding the high standards expected across Heidelberg Materials UK.

You will carry out essential SHE and Quality inspections, operate and maintain both static and mobile plant, and support the coordination of daily activities across the site. Strong teamwork, excellent housekeeping and a commitment to company procedures are vital to success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely and correctly operate mobile plant equipment.

  • Operate and monitor static plant efficiently and in line with procedures.

  • Complete all pre‑start, operational and post‑operation inspections, documenting findings accurately.

  • Report and follow up on defects identified during inspections.

  • Maintain plant and equipment in accordance with manufacturer and company guidelines.

  • Submit near‑miss reports as required by Site Management.

  • Maintain clean, safe and well‑organised workstations at all times.

  • Ensure all visitors sign in, are welcomed appropriately and directed to their meeting point.

  • Carry out contractor inductions where required.

  • Demonstrate consistent attendance, punctuality and a positive work ethic.

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure smooth production and operational efficiency.

  • Adhere to all company standards, policies and procedures, including those relating to Health & Safety, Quality and Environmental practice.

Education & Qualifications

  • Good general education to support understanding of health and safety and quarry regulations.

  • Willingness to work towards and achieve NVQ/QCF certification in static and mobile plant operations (if not already held).
