Job Description

Transport Planner

We're recruiting on behalf of a growing business looking to appoint an experienced Transport Planner. You'll join an established transport team, taking responsibility for planning daily operations, managing drivers and ensuring an efficient, compliant and customer-focused service in a busy, fast-paced environment. You'll be responsible for the day-to-day planning and coordination of transport operations, ensuring vehicles and drivers are utilised effectively while maintaining high service standards.

Location: Scarborough
Salary: £34,000 

Hours

  • Monday to Friday, 7:30am - 5:00pm
  • Weekend cover required on a rota basis, usually 1 in 4 weekends (approximately 7:30am - 3:00pm)
  • Days off in lieu are provided during the week when weekend cover is worked

Key responsibilities:

  • Planning and coordinating daily transport operations
  • Managing employed drivers and subcontractors
  • Monitoring daily operations and responding to changing priorities
  • Liaising with customers to ensure deliveries run smoothly
  • Identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce costs
  • Ensuring compliance with Drivers' Hours regulations, Working Time Directive and Operator Licence requirements
  • Producing operational reports and maintaining accurate records
  • Working with the workshop team to coordinate fleet servicing and maintenance
  • Supporting continuous improvement across the transport department

You'll have:

  • Previous experience as a Transport Planner
  • Strong understanding of transport operations and route planning
  • Knowledge of Drivers' Hours regulations and transport legislation
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Strong IT skills and attention to detail
  • The ability to work under pressure and make effective decisions

A Transport Manager CPC would be advantageous but is not essential.
